Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Kathmandu

Welcome to Himalayan country of Nepal. Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan international airport our representative welcomes you and assists you in transferring to your hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 2Kathmandu Sightseeing

This morning begins with breakfast followed by a full-day guided cultural sightseeing tour of Kathmandu Valley, while also submitting your passport and required documents for the Tibetan group visa application at the Chinese Embassy. As visa processing takes a minimum of three working days, this day allows you to explore the cultural depth of Nepal’s capital. You will visit Pashupatinath Temple, the holiest Hindu shrine in Nepal where cremation rituals are carried out by the Bagmati River; Swayambhunath Stupa, also known as the Monkey Temple, perched on a hilltop with sweeping views of the valley; Bouddhanath, one of the largest stupas in the world and a center for Tibetan Buddhism; and finally, Patan Durbar Square, an ancient royal complex showcasing exquisite Newari architecture and rich history. This exploration offers profound insight into Nepal’s spiritual and historical heritage

Day 3Bhaktapur Durbar square sightseeing, Visa and Trip Preparation

After breakfast, your guide will take you for a half-day excursion to Bhaktapur, an ancient city that still retains its medieval ambiance. Famous for its well-preserved palaces, courtyards, temples, and pottery-making tradition, Bhaktapur Durbar Square gives a glimpse into the Kathmandu Valley’s rich cultural past. After your visit, you will return to Kathmandu to continue trip preparations, including checking your gear, finalizing motorbike logistics, and ensuring all travel documents are in order for Tibet. This day allows you to prepare physically and mentally for the high-altitude adventure ahead.

Time: Approx. 5 hours

Distance: 30 km (round trip)

Day 4Rest Day in Kathmandu (Visa Waiting Day)

Today is reserved as a rest day in Kathmandu while awaiting the final approval and release of your Chinese group visa from the embassy. You can take this opportunity to relax, explore local markets such as Thamel, or revisit any sites you might have missed. It’s also a good time to finalize motorbike adjustments or purchase last-minute supplies needed for the remote high-altitude ride ahead. No formal travel is scheduled today

Day 5Kathmandu to Shyabrubesi

Today marks the official beginning of your motorbike journey. After collecting your Chinese visa, you will leave the busy streets of Kathmandu and ride northwest toward Shyabrubesi, a remote village that serves as the gateway to the Langtang region. The route starts by following the Prithvi Highway before diverging onto smaller winding roads through the scenic hill towns of Nuwakot and Dhunche. This stretch traverses the Langtang National Park, with beautiful mountain views, dense forests, and traditional Tamang villages along the way. Due to the narrow, hilly, and sometimes rugged roads, the journey is long and adventurous, setting the tone for the days to come.

Time: 7–8 hours

Distance: 125 km

Day 6Shyabrubesi to Kerung

After breakfast, you will begin your ride toward the Nepal-China border at Rasuwagadhi, which is just 18 km away. Upon arrival, you will go through necessary immigration and customs formalities to enter the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. From the border, you will continue your ride for another 24 km to reach Kerung (Gyirong), a small but rapidly developing Tibetan town. After reaching Kerung, the rest of the day is dedicated to acclimatization. It’s important to let your body adapt to the higher altitude, so you’ll avoid any strenuous riding or activity this afternoon and instead take time to explore the local Tibetan surroundings on foot.

Time: 3 hours including border procedures

Distance: 42 km

Day 7Kerun to Tingri (4300 m)

Today’s ride takes you higher onto the vast and majestic Tibetan Plateau. Leaving Kerung, the road ascends dramatically into a barren but breathtaking landscape that gives you the feeling of riding across the roof of the world. On clear days, you’ll witness stunning views of Himalayan peaks, including Mt. Cho Oyu (8,201 m) and Mt. Xixabangma (8,012 m), two of the fourteen 8000-meter giants. The day ends in Tingri, a windswept highland town with views of Everest on the horizon. The rapid increase in elevation requires caution, so you’ll ride at a moderate pace and hydrate regularly.

Time: 5–6 hours

Distance: 244 km

Day 8Tingri to Rongbuk (4980 m) and Visit Everest Base Camp

After breakfast, the ride continues through the vast and isolated terrain of Tibet, with the high point being the Gawu La Pass at 5,198 meters. From the top of this pass, you’ll be treated to one of the best panoramic views of the Himalayas, including Mt. Everest. The road leads to Rongbuk, home to the highest monastery in the world. As vehicles are no longer permitted to drive all the way to Everest Base Camp due to environmental regulations, you will park your bikes and take an electric shuttle for the final leg. Though direct access to the base camp is restricted without a climbing permit, the shuttle will bring you within 1.5 km of the base, offering breathtaking views of Everest’s north face.

Time: 3.5 hours (excluding shuttle time)

Distance: 90 km

Day 9Rongbuk to Upper Kerung

Start your morning with awe-inspiring views of Mt. Everest in the early light, followed by a visit to the historic Rongbuk Monastery. After breakfast, retrace your route from Rongbuk back toward Kerung. Though the return route is the same, the changing light and angles often offer a different perspective on the incredible landscapes you’ve already passed. Riding across the open plateau and descending through winding roads, you’ll arrive at Upper Kerung by late afternoon for an overnight stay before crossing back into Nepal the next day.

Time: 6–7 hours

Distance: Approx. 240 km

Day 10Kerung to Kathmandu

Today you’ll complete your epic loop by crossing the Nepal-Tibet border once again at Rasuwagadhi. After completing immigration and customs procedures, you will say farewell to your Tibetan guide and re-enter Nepal. Ride along the same scenic route through Shyabrubesi, Dhunche, and Nuwakot before finally reaching Kathmandu. You’ll arrive back in the capital city in the evening, bringing your high-altitude adventure full circle.

Time: 7–8 hours

Distance: 125 km
